Don was born in Toronto, he live in Orillia, Ontario as a teen.

He is married to Ana Paula Lopes who is a social innovator and entrepreneur. They have two kids Alex Tapscott and Nicole Tapscott.

Dan is alma mater of University of Alberta, from where he did his B.Sc in psychology and statistics and also M.Ed specializing in research methodology.
